A few notes regarding the new App Engine 1.4 SDK Channel API

Post to Twitter

With the recent announcement of the new App Engine 1.4 SDK and Channel API it now supports I wanted to dive in right away. I updated Eclipse with the latest App Engine SDK and then attempted to grab the sample source code (Tic-Tac-Toe) that is listed in their Java documentation. However, their link is wrong (at the time of this post). The actual working link is: http://code.google.com/p/java-channel-tic-tac-toe/

Once I grabbed the source code via Subversion in Eclipse I noticed the code didn’t compile. There is (currently) an error in their sample code.

In the file GetTokenServlet.java these lines of code:

    if (currentUserId.equals(game.getUserX()) ||
        currentUserId.equals(game.getUserY())) {

…probably should be this:

    if (currentUserId.equals(game.getUserX()) ||
        currentUserId.equals(game.getUserO())) {

I’ve had the game briefly running but ran into more issues. I’ll keep trying…
